Had mine in Chicago with Mike 7/22

Recommended Posts

Hey I'm WooTown.  I'm a RN from Ohio.  I'm 40 years old.  I didn't want to go with a receding look as I think all the pics I've seen without the receding hairline look better and more natural for hair that's supposed to have a shaved look....and not bald, if you know what I mean.  All that hair....gone within the year.  Well...it's been really thin for a long time, but the bottom fell out within the year.  Maybe the 1 year old son has something to do with it lol.

I had my first treatment done in Chicago on 7/22 with Mike.  Everything from beginning to end was positive.  I drove for 6 hours and when I showed up I was brain dead and ready to take a nap.  I didn't take any pain meds....the pain wasn't severe or anything for me, but can be intense at times.  Just relax your body and take it as a pleasure to destroy your baldness.    I didn't experience any after effects afterwards other than my head felt like it had a bad sunburn.

Here are my before pics:  As you can see I'm fair complected with red tones to my brownish hair.

Here are the pics day 1 after my procedure:

I'm not feeling insecure about my look at all.  I've been out and about
without a hat on, even though I have some residual redness.  The sunburn feeling has subsided quite a bit since yesterday.  My girlfriend is happy with the results so far.  I'll post more pics once it settles a bit.

I would have waited for it to settle in a little before I posted pics, but I am just anxious for feedback and suggestions for treatment #2.

Thanks.

Today I went out with my dad and his wife.  They both really liked my "shaved" head and couldn't believe how much thicker my hair looked with it shaved.

I told them and they were astonished on how real and natural it looked.

and yeh...I go in for my second treatment on Monday 7/28.

I haven't been out much, but as I said before, my dad just was going on about how much better and thicker it looked shaved.

Him and his wife rationalized it by saying the shaved hairs looked darker.  When people see something that doesn't make sense to them, they usually give themselves a simple rational answer.

I've been walking around the stores without a hat....I ran into one of my patients at walmart and she didn't even say anything or pay any attention to my hair.

Oh...and my neighbor had a whole conversation with me without even looking at my hair....most people just aren't very perceptive with hair changes.  They sure notice that you are losing it though....

It's definitely a freeing feeling....there's much less insecurity about hair than there was before..and I didn't feel very insecure in the first place (or at least I didn't think I was).

I HAVE been on vacation all week though.  I go back to work the day after my next session next Tuesday 7/28.  I'll see HUNDREDS of people including surgeons (also plastic surgeons) , doctors, coworkers and patients...I'll let you know how it goes lol.  I'm sure some of them will be interested.....

Here's an update on 7/26 (4 days post procedure).  As you can see I've had some fading.  I still like it but I'm going to want more color....Also, I don't know what it'll look like once the rest of my head gets more sun, I suppose it'll look pretty faint....

My hair is pretty light when it's down to stubbles.....I'm thinking about adding a hairline on the profiles and maybe the back....idk...any advice?

Today my best friend saw me for the first time...I didn't tell him.  All he thought was that I shaved my head.  He made no comment otherwise.  I saw a slight question in his eyes, but...he's the kind of person to put his foot in his mouth at the first chance he can...and he didn't say anything other that I shaved my head.

Ok.  The first day back to work the very next day after session 2.

The reactions at work went really well.  I told them I shaved it and then it got sunburned.

Some people said they didn't recognize me with a shaved head.  The nurses I've worked with for 7 years didn't make any big fuss about it at all....other than 'wow..it looks good."

The first doctor that I talked to was a plastic surgeon and he said it looked really good and that  was the whole conversation other than it went straight to football talk.

One secretary I worked with for 10 years said, " wow, my son is bald and you go and shave all that hair off...."

One maintenance guy who has a full head of hair that's fairly closely shaved said, "wow, that looks pretty close to mine"

there were a few "where'd your hair go?"s.  I just said it got shave off and it's in the trash somewhere...

One receptionist said that I got a military cut.....

One older bald orderly was the one that gawked the most....he just said, "wow" and had a perplexed look.  "i just have to get used to the new look."

One RN said, " it looks darker on top now with a perplexed look"...she had to leave quick without any discussion.....

It is darker right now which is ok with me...whether or not it lightens or not.  It most likely will though. I'll post a pick that shows how much it lightened from the first session.

A coworker acted mad at me today.  He said, " I shave my head because I don't have hair!  You have hair and you shave it!"

A couple of comments about how it looks darker on top for some reason.

A lot of people seem completely oblivious to the change.

Some people notice and are completely shocked at the difference.

Not a single person says anything about tattoos, although I think they suspect I dyed my hair.....

I tell nobody at work because of the tattoo policy at the hospital that I work at.  I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue, but working at a hospital, you don't want to give them any ammo against you for any reason.....
