  1. Is it possible to wet shave against the grain and still have the SMP treatment blend properly after the shave? I feel like after a wet shave against the grain your remaining follicles are basically gone for about 10 hour or so and the SMP treatment would stick out like a sore thumb being that the dots are larger... Anyone have experience with this? My treatment is set for this Friday. I came in for my consultation with about a day and a half of growth and explained to my practitioner that i generally wet shave against the grain every other day or so since that's what I'm most comfortable with. I understand that using an electric would leave a bit stubble, and i would def experiment with that option as well and mess around with both. Based on my day and half of growth, he mentioned that my hair did not grow in that fast and that i would easily be able to get away with 2 days of no shaving if needed. He said he would perform the treatment where it would match a fresh wet shave against the grain but also be able to stay for about 2 days. My only concern as mentioned above is that the dots from the SMP would really stick out right after a wet shave...Watcha say folks?
  2. When you guys wet shave, do you shave with or against the grain? Didn't have treatment yet, I'd say I'm like a Norwood 6 and i shave against the grain as i find that gives me the closest and smoothest shave. In pictures the horseshoe is still kind of visible even immediately after a shave and gets worse by the hour. I do however feel that the follicles aren't so visible right away and feel like there would be a huge coloring difference between treatment and my real hair after a wet shave against the grain...Anyone shave against the grain have experience with this? Or maybe most of you shave with the grain, which i feel would have you shaving more often since it doesn't get so close? Any input would be greatly appreciated, gracias!
  3. As I have time before my first consultation (Thank you Damien for helping me set it up) I have some time on my hands to educate myself on this topic and well, take some pictures. I am a Norwood 7 with a huge horseshoe, I wet shave most days, but some days I can go up to 2-4 days without doing so. I have taken pictures of both. With about 3-4 days of growth and directly after wet shaving with a Mach 3, although my head feels like a baby's rear, I still have that five o clock shadow as seen in the pics. Also you might not be able to see, but I do have little sprouts of hair on my dome that I can barely see or feel, this might benefit me when I get my first procedure and in the long run if someone decides to touch the top of my head. Ok, so I will post what I look like without wet shaving for a few days. I have some patches of gray and some patches of uneven hair growth, why I am not sure.
  4. Judging by the thousands of hair loss stories I've read on here, I should probably start this like everyone else and give a brief history of my ongoing predicament. I'm 26 now and began growing increasingly follicularly challenged a the ripe age of 18. Up until senior year of high school I had such a thick head of hair, just like my dad (who still has a full head of hair btw). I'm definitely a testament to the theory that this sick joke of a trait is passed through your mothers side (All bald uncles on my moms side, minus 1) - which I take time to thank her for when she routinely asks me to grow my hair out a little. Anyway, the problem was first, embarrassingly pointed out to me by my Calculus teacher, who was bald also. Go figure, it took me until now to see how he spotted it on me before even I had a clue - bald guys definitely develop a way keener eye for hair patterns and from my experience with him, it seems that some even feel a little better about their own situation by identifying the early onset of another victim. Anyway, needless to say I had the typical breakdown. I progressed through the denial phases pretty quickly and dropped into a pretty steep depression about it. I was 18 and I felt like someone was stealing the next dozen years of my youth from me.. I mean, hell, I was about to graduate soon and head to college; this was the last thing I needed! Finally, during football one day, I just manned up and hacked the damn thing down to a no. 1 guard... and i felt fantastic! I was back and I actually loved the look! I could talk to chicks again without worrying about anything - very minor receding hairline, but I was fine with that.. it actually gave my head a bit of character I thought. Plus, the whole football team buzzed theirs after I did, so I guess I turned out to be a bit of a trendsetter haha. Anyway, as you can guess, the excitement didn't last too long. Half way through my junior year it was thinning so bad that I had to go to a completely wet shave (I mean gillette mach 3, now upgraded to gillette fusion proglide (great razor btw)). That worked for a while, and I felt like I could pull the look off pretty decently, especially in the summer with a bit of color on my head. This look was OK, but I started to grow increasingly aware of my own hairline after a while. I noticed that the hair on the sides was leaving just the right amount of shadow in some light to make it obvious that I was balding, which was killing my look. From the front it wasn't bad, especially when I shaved against the grain and got a good close shave. Just out of the shower, you could barely see the shadow, and I could get away with a few hours that way before that dreaded shadow started creeping up on me. BTW, i tried numerous treatments throughout this whole process and just ended up giving up on all of them. Propecia, Rogain, LaserComb, you name it. I stopped the pills and chemicals after I found out my older brother had an embarrassing erectile issue and spend the entire day chugging cranberry juice to flush his system (not even sure if that works?). The LaserComb could have worked, but it just sucked. I mainly don't have the discipline to do that thing as often as they recommended and I just gave up on it. So alas, here I am. I went into the Chicago office a week back and spoke with Matt (I think?) during my consultation. He was awesome, and his treatment looked fantastic. His hair seemed a little long for how I've been keeping mine, which did raise a little bit of a concern (He also seemed to have more than me). But he did assure me that the system was intended for shaved heads (I'm hoping that means shaved head against the grain with a pretty damn good razor). I did notice that the dots on nearly all the pics right after treatment looked quite large. I'm confident (at least I'm hoping) that these dots will shrink in time, but I'm hoping that they'll get to the point where I can shave my head as I have been and you won't be able to see a transition from my shaved sides to the SMP up top. I'd really hate to try and be finicky all the time trying to maintain a millimeter's length to get it to match up to the treatment. I mean if need be, I will, but it would bother me. I also met Michal at the Chicago office and the guy seemed happy as all hell to be performing the treatment on some other guy that was in there. Michal seemed like a great guy and I look forward to meeting him. The guy he was doing treatment on was there for his first session and his head looked a bit dotty, which I expected, but it threw me off a bit (granted it was quite red as well which may have exaggerated the effect). Anyway, I'm really just nervous about the treatment in large part because of the forums saying on thing about hair length and HIS suggesting others. I'd ideally like to keep shaving my head as I have (against the grain) with a 5 blade razor. Is this still possible? If I do it this way, am I just asking for the dots to be more evident against a lighter lower scalp? Also, pre treatment question: Do I show up for treatment with a days growth and then shave my way after he's seen my hair? I figure this way he'll get a good idea of how I'd like to keep it.. Lots of questions, I know. Hopefully you guys can assist with a few answers and some advice to bring up my confidence in the process. I'll try and upload pics soon of this dome. Thanks!
  5. What has been people's experiences in shaving their scar before getting SMP? I am contemplating on wet shaving my head and getting preSMP laser work on my scar before getting it camouflaged with ink this fall after the TO office opens. A few years ago I buzzed my head to a #1 and my scar could be seen from across the room. I am hoping that since my scar is reasonably flat, white and thin and the fact that I have light colored hair (red) that my follicles should be so light that the scar will not be that noticeable. I know that if I buzz my head that the scar will look terrible before getting SMP but will it look passible if I wet shave every day minimizing the contrast of the follicles and the white scar? Also, after getting SMP does the ink look more noticeable than the follicles if you wet shave? Anyone have experience with this?
  6. Oh this is what a forum is, i get it now Hello all and thank you all. this has been a very informative experience, I think this internet thing is gonna catch on. So my concern about smp treatment... I wet shave with a razor everyday, and my skin tone is like the rock from wrestling entertainment. So with a fresh shave my hair is very light just like the rocks. My concern is will the black dots from the smp treatment pop out after a wet shave? Some of these treatments look like they're wearing an extra large yarmelke. Some guys have hair that is very visible on the sides when bald, I need it to be very very light. "Hey you got a some of dirt on your head?" Why do some guys chose to get it so dark and dense, sometimes it looks like paint....a lot of these guys look great after the second treatment. has anyone regretted going to dark? Im looking for a very light shadow. In the picture i posted of the rock, you can see how light his is. This would be my ideal lightness I'm trying to achieve.
