Ok guys I wanted to give some people a little heads up on how your head will respond to being shaved down to zero for the first time. I have shaved my head for the last 6 years to zero and against the grain. I can shave my head and face with a disposable razor around 3 times before I have to use a new razor. My skin is just used to it I guess. But in the beginning that wasn't the case, I'd have to use a new razor every time and would get irritation.
The first time you shave your head you will no doubt have some irritation from shaving. I.E. reddish skin to even razor bumps. If you don't shave now and only plan to do so right before & after your first treatment then You can probably expect your skin to be extra sensitive at your treatment. I can't imagine how it couldn't be.
If you have never shaved your head before and aren't sure how to do it. There are different ways to do it.
You can shave with the grain- which IMO causes way less irritation and redness, but will not get you a super close shave, which may or may not be what you want. With the grain you pull the razor down the back of you head and will feel a lot less "pulling" or "tugging" of you hair as it is cut off. You shave in the direction your hair actually grows. You should still be able to feel hair when you are done.
Against the grain- This shave you pull the razor against the direction your hair grows. It will produce a super close shave. Your head should feel like bare skin when you run your hand over it. Not even a hint of stubble left. The advantage IMO is that you won't need to shave everyday if you choose not to. The disadvantage is that if you wait for more than 3 days between shaves you are going to have trouble going against the grain and risk redness and irritation.
Use clippers- This is the non irritation way to go. Basically no guard on some Whal's or whatever clippers you have. (They are cheap to own) Do it however you like, it just a super close haircut, but even then you can get minimal redness, which goes away very quickly. No razor bumps with this method. This is Just something for you guys who have never razor shaved to think about.
First time go slow.
Use a quality razor.
Literally clean the razor out after every swipe you make.
Use a moisturizer afterwards because your skin will be dry looking and flake.
And go slow!
Expect your skin to feel super tight.
If you see irritation or red bumps don't be alarmed you either went to fast or your skin is sensitive to it.
Your skin will toughen up to it.
Do not attempt to use clippers and then go against the grain. You will regret that. I've tried it.
If you have never done it then I hope this is somewhat helpful to you. I imagine that one of these three options would look best for each individual and their MHT. I think I will try them all once I get it done just to see which one looks best on me. I'm not sure what HIS suggests for guys to do the morning of their treatment, but I have to say that against the grain on a never before shaved noggin would be a bad idea. razor burn plus MHT would be no fun.
Good day all.
not yet. Scheduled in for the fall..
