Hey guys. Loving the forum and site, the whole idea of MHT is intriguing to say the least. Could be exactly what i'm looking for...
Newbie with a bunch of questions

Quick summary of my background:25 years old, started losing my hair around 17/18, would say im currently an NW3 with major thinning in the front and minor in the back. I also seem to be thinning on the sides and at the nape area (Retrograde Alopecia perhaps). I started using Finasteride, Minoxidil and Nizoral at 19 and have continued to do so until a few months ago (still using, but have swapped Finasteride for Dutasteride). Unfortunately the hair loss hasn't stabilized yet. I've been wet shaving my head for the last 3 years and using the "big 3" in order to hold onto what I have until I can afford an FUE transplant (if it turns out that i'm a good candidate). The thing is, i actually suit the shaved head, but would look so much better with a nice hairline, which is why i'm here I guess. None of my friends or family knows the real extent of my hair loss because i shaved before the real thinning/receding set in and have kept it that way every day since. So if I were to have the treatment, it would just look like i've let my hair grow out a little longer than usual.I've known about this technique for quite a while, but was originally against the idea of it (uneducated on the process and sceptical of all hair loss treatments i suppose). Having actually researched it quite a bit recently, i now have a more positive view, but still have a lot of questions, so here goes:1) For people who still have a fair amount of hair, how are the hairier areas of the head dealt with? Is it a case of covering the areas that are completely bald and filling in the gaps elsewhere?2) If the above is the case, what happens when the areas that still have hair continue to thin out? Wouldn't that leave you with a head covered in different levels of tattooed follicles?3) Again, if the above is the case and you get the treatment, do you then need to figure out the best length for your hair and avoid ever going shorter? What I mean by that is, if the entire head is not covered in MHT (only specific areas) and it looks realistic when wet shaved with the grain or buzzed with no guard, would it be extremely odd looking if you were to shave against the grain? Leaving loads of 'dots' in random areas across your scalp?4) If I were to get this done, but 2, 3, 4 years down the line I decided to go ahead with an FUE transplant, does anyone know if the MHT on your scalp would make things tricky for the transplant doctor?5) I have noticed different types of hair lines in the case studies and galleries on the site. Some I really like and some I don't. I would only want to do this if I could specify exactly the type of hair line I want. For me it would be a softer, less aggressive hair line, at around an NW2 level, similar to these:Sometimes (and I dont mean any offense by this) i've noticed that some of the results tend to look like a solid, sharp line of hair. This seems to look better on black or asian men, but a bit less realistic on white guys like myself. My question is, are all the practitioners able to give a wide range of hairlines and densities, depending on the patient's aims?6) In all honesty, in real life, under certain lights, etc, is anyone able to tell that the areas with hair are different from the MHT areas? Has anyone on here that has went for this ever been questioned about it, or had comments like "something looks a bit off on your head". My co-workers and friends are not the types to hold back if they think something looks a bit strange about someone they know...Thanks to anyone who's taken the time to read this, i'm sure i'll have more queries to annoy you all with at some point, haha!Posted 3 months ago #

Hi Bane, answers as follows:
1) and 2) The treated area is generally extended further than the point of recession. This ensures even coverage and also allows for further hair loss. The extent to which pigments are applied are usually pretty even across the entire treated area, as this has been proven to create the most realistic appearance.
3) We would not apply the treatment in random areas, so this issue would not arise
4) MHT would have no bearing on any future hair transplant surgery
5) All practitioners can create all types of hairlines. This is central to their training, and yes, you can request exactly the style of hairline that you want. If you want a softer hairline, then a softer hairline you will receive :)
6) My answer is likely to be perceived as biased, so I'd rather leave this question for the rest of the community to answer

Thanks for your reply Damien - much appreciated. I'm very interested, but definitely need to see some examples in real life, so I guess a consultation is my best bet. Regarding consultations, etc. I have a couple more questions:
7) How long in advance do I have to contact the clinic to arrange one? If I contact Birmingham this week for instance and want to book a consultation, what kind of timescale am I looking at?8) Once at a consultation, are you guaranteed a chance to see a couple of completed cases? E.g. are there always a number of practitioners and representatives around that are willing to give you a close up look, or is it just your luck as to who is around that day?9) If you go ahead and decide to have the treatment once you've had a meeting, what's the average waiting time between then and your first treatment?10) How long does a treatment normally take?11) Regarding aftercare - are you allowed to wear a beanie hat straight after a treatment on your trip home and on the days after?Sorry for all the queries, just trying to work out potential time off from my job and stuff. :)Posted 3 months ago # -
Hi ya Bane
I also am new here and I am following the Forum with interest.
7) I phoned on Monday to try and get a appointment for Friday, they couldn't do Friday but I got Thursday instead then they phoned me up and gave me a cancellation spot on Wednesday. So in answer to your question ~ Quite Quick.
I can let you know the rest after my consolutation
I can tell you one bit of advice "NEVER GET A TRANSPLANT" I have lived with one for 24 years now (I'm 43) and have had to live with the embarrassment and REGRET since having it done. I was young when I had it done (20) I was too young to know better.
This looks like a vialable option for people in my position.

One more thing:
If I were you I would talk to someone about what you are considering, Family or friend.
Don't make this decision only by yourself.

7) Timescales vary massively from one month to the next. Generally speaking, you'll need to book 2-4 weeks in advance, but you might get in a bit quicker like Tesla.
8) It is down to luck to a certain extent, however all of our practitioners (except Paul) have had the treatment. Some of our clinics are very busy, so you're very likely to see clients at varying stages of their treatments.
9) Same timescales as question 7
10) A session usually takes 2-4 hours. A complete treatment usually consists of 2-3 sessions, with a handful of clients requiring more than this. Sessions must be spaced 5-7 days apart to allow the skin to heal, and the pigments to settle.
11) Yes. You just need to avoid exfoliants and deep cleansers, excessive sweating and strong sunlight.

Hi ya Bane
I had my consultation today and in answer to
7) your time scales are:The earliest you can get in at London is mid or end March
Birmingham is better I don't know by how much (I think they are bigger) but they are too far for me.
Hope this helps
P.s There was no sales presure at the consultation today at all, it was just a friendly chat, I had my wife there and she thought Damon was a nice honest fella.
I think I have convinced myself to rind tomorrow and book in for the end of March.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies and info guys. And good luck with your treatments if you do decide to go ahead with it Tesla!
Damien - I hate to concentrate on the potential negatives, but i've contacted a representative of a very respected FUE doctor with a few queries about the doctor's ability to work on a scalp that has had micro-pigmentation performed on it. Like I said previously, i've been looking into FUE extensively over the last few years and if I was to ever get it done, i'm 99% certain that this doctor is the man I would go to. I was sent a reply that included these comments:"The person we saw the doctor had concerns infact whether the ink would effect the grafts and in the end the person didn't come."and:"The guy I saw lived under a hat and didn't look natural"Obviously, this patient that visited the FUE clinic that I have been in contact with could have gotten his MHT done anywhere, and i'm not for one moment implying that his work was done by HIS. But regardless of the quality of the work, it does worry me that this doctor believes that the ink could pose a risk to grafts. Do you have any idea what it is that would lead him to believe this? The HIS site has numerous cases of good results on guys that have previously had HT and combined it with MHT, but how many successful treatments do you know of that have been combined with FUE/Hair transplant AFTER the ink has been put in place?Again - many thanks for your help on this.Posted 3 months ago # -
I can certainly confirm that MHT will not damage your prospects of successful FUE procedure, in fact our clients combine the two all the time, either having MHT first, or FUE then MHT. I dont have any specific case studies as your request is quite narrow, but Ian should be able to help.
You could do with seeing someone face to face. Might be worth finding out where Ian is, and requesting your consultation specifically with him.
I would be careful how much you trust this certain type of 'doctor'. The word conjures up images of a trustworthy pillar of society, but these guys work for private limited companies, often owning them, and are there to make money. The more transplants they complete, the more money they make.
That is not to say that some arent ethical, in fact many are very ethical, but you've only got to look at the recent breast implant scandal to see that this isnt always the case. Ask around the forum and I think you'll find the general attitude towards HT 'doctors' to be a negative one.

Thanks Damien. A wee update - i've booked a consultation, managed to get one for tomorrow. I'm not sure who it will be with (I made contact before seeing your latest reply on here, so didn't request Ian).
I really hope I get a chance to see a few cases in real life up close. I am very intrigued and want this to be as good as it seems. I suit the shaved look very well and i'm only looking for a small, subtle improvement, which I reckon could make a world of difference to my overall look and confidence.I will update with my thoughts once i'm done guys! :)Posted 3 months ago # -
Great, best of luck Bane. Take a list of questions. So many people dont do this and forget to ask whilst theyre there

UPDATE:
Had my consultation in Birmingham yesterday. Purely by chance I happened to get Ian. It was very interesting seeing Ian's results in person and I have to admit - as sceptical as I am, it was very realistic. My major worry about this treatment is that it will in some way make me look 'odd', not quite right, look obvious that something has been done, etc, but I can honestly say that if Ian were to walk past me, I wouldn't even consider the possibility of it not being his natural hair. It also blended very well with the hair he has remaining, which was another thing I was worried about.I would also like to say (as many have before) that in no way did I feel like he was trying to 'sell' me the treatment. There was no pressure, just a quick examination of my hair loss and a relaxed chat about the treatment. I had written a list of questions and all of these were answered clearly.Having looked at my current situation, Ian was very confident that I would be an ideal candidate. I have a reasonable amount of hair left on top and am lucky enough that i've never had to deal with things like transplant scars, etc. Having bic'd my head for the last few years, i'm used to the process of shaving my head every 1-2 days, which also helps I guess.I left the consultation with a lot to think about and did not make a decision on the spot. Having looked at all the videos, galleries, case studies again and again since last night and considered all my options, I think i'm gonna go for it! The results speak for themselves and although I still have a lot of reservations, if i'm being honest with myself, I am very unhappy with the way that balding has affected my looks, so I feel it's a chance I have to take.I'm going to email the clinic this week to see about available times and will keep everyone on here updated as I go along. Cheers for reading and wish me luck! :)Posted 3 months ago # -
