If like me one of your main fears about MHT is explaining to friends and family how you have suddenly sprouted a new fantastic looking head of hair, then I thought it would be helpful and fun to share the best excuse (Lie lol) you plan to use or maybe have used to explain your new youthful looking head!!
Explaining your new hair (Top excuses).
(29 posts) (23 voices)-
The top 3 I'm thinking of using are...1: Ive been using that new regain foam off of the telly and LOW and BEHOLD it actually thickens your hair.2: I took the plunge and tried some laser scalp therapy and it seems to be doing a good job!3: Ive been going to the gym and eating more healthier lately and for some reason my hair seems to be more healthy for it!I would love to hear some of your own ideas... Obviously some will be different to others due to different amounts of hairloss or maybe your friends don't like to take the peter Schmeichel as much as mine. I am an N6-7 so feel my MHT will be alot more noticable than that of a N3-4.Posted 8 months ago #

yes thats a good point.ive had my head done about 3 months ago and im well happy with it..in my case thow i had been hiding under a baseball cap at work and in public so i really had a smooth transition when i took my hat off excuses wise..
but following the treatment i was searching the net for a head condition which kinda forced some one to shave there heads ie exma which would be a good excuse for a permanantly shaved head, sadly i couldent find a rare disease to fit the profile..
for your case i soppose rogaine would be the best explanation for hair growth..
the main reason im replying to this post is because friday i was doing my shopping in iceland and when i got to the till to checkout, some flirty till girl who i kinda fancy, said "that hair is short why do you shave your hair so short"
she caught me kinda flat footed.
i replied "i hate having hair it makes me all hot and flustered"
ideally i would have liked an exotic head condition to throw at her like{brazilliarnosexusscalpbiproxysyndrome}
does anyone know of any scalp disorders that would force a recipient to permanantly shave ones bonce..cos i cant find one,ps damien the chap incharge of the forum i can log into this site and browse etc on my iphone and ipad but i cannot post on an ios devise are you aware of thisbug thanks

@Bhamchap
Folliculitis, say you have this i would be a perfect excuse to why you shave your head. I know this as my mate had it and had to shave his hair until it had gone. His was only mild i couldn`t see anything wrong but apparently it was itchy and sometimes a small rash or spots would appear. He shaved it to apply cream or as you would moisturizer, perfect excuse and no one will question you.Posted 8 months ago # -
Since I actually have a rare scalp condition I hate to see you guys make up that you have them in order to explain your hairstyle. I have scarring alopecia which all (for me) happens underneath the scalp (no visible scarring) but causes permanent hair loss in the areas it affects. The only people who have seen my bare scalp have been myself, my wife, my doctor & now Ian.
I've been thinking a lot about explaining the look change I'm going to go through and the last thing I've thought of was saying I have what I have (or something similar to it). That being said, if you want to say you had scalp inflammation and went to the doctor to get it treated and he told you to shave your head you can say he prescribed you Olux foam, which is a steroid foam that you put on your head to decrease scalp inflammation. You could also say he was giving you steroid/cortisone shots in your scalp to stop the inflammation. That said, I think it's a little disrespectful to people who actually have these diseases to pretend you have them.I also hesitate to tell you guys to say you've used Rogaine as that may make other people around go out and buy it for themselves or recommend it to friends based on your "results". When my condition first was diagnosed I was put on that stuff 2 times a day and it gave me headaches, caused facial swelling/reddening and then made the hair on my head dependent on it. When I dropped it because the side effects were getting out of control (I looked like I had a very bad sunburn on my face in the middle of winter) it accelerated my hair loss by dropping it.The cover story I was thinking of using for myself was I had been working out, eating better and taking some vitamins (vitamin d-3, fish oil, etc.) and low and behold my hair started to fill back in with little hairs on top. Only problem was it wasn't growing very long/fast on top so it would get uneven and look like crap. Because I kept shaving it down to look clean I ended up growing to love the look and the ease of maintenance. If I wanted to grow my hair long again, it would take a year of my hair looking like crap to do that so I'm sticking with this.I've run that story by my wife who thinks it's a good one.I really hope you guys "own your look" and don't tell people you used Rogaine or Propecia or even a disease that someone like myself has had to suffer through. Propecia is poison. I know it from personal experience. The last thing you'd want to do is encourage someone to use that garbage. The Propecia side effects for me were massive weight gain, depression and a temporary loss of sexual performance. That stuff is poison. Those are all actual side effects they know about but keep prescribing that crap to people.Good luck guys!I suffered from a form of scarring alopecia called Lichen Planopilaris. I had my first treatment with HIS on 11/28/2011 and it's changed my life for the better. If you invent a medical condition you may see any dating prospects running the other way for fear of catching something.
You don't need any excuse - if you like the military look what's it to that girl? Just tell her you like wearing it like that (and if she likes long hair she can go suck Fabio's dick for all you care). Frankly, she was being a controlling asshole. It would be like you telling her she would look better in heels than in those flats, or that a dress would suit her better than the jeans she is wearing, or that blue really isn't her color.

I also thought I’d need to explain my new look to various people and mulled over various excuses in my head. However I’ve not had to use any of them as no one has mentioned anything to this day, well over 2 years since having had it done.
Most people will notice that you look different/better but will not be able to quite put their finger on it. Although if you do get rumbled then the “I’ve been taking vitamins” is probably the best option and the one which is the least likely to lead to further questions.
I had my treatment done in May 2009 - I started a diary with my pictures, before and after, which you can see here: DIARY: My experience so far (with Pictures)

honestly this is why i am going to go for a soft look at not to much density as i want it to look natural as a "im in my 30's and prefer a shaved look to keep hair looking nice and neat"... this is done by most those who are famous and in this catagory so will help not having to make a reason as it will probley be known based off the "look" you have. For me it should not be too hard to hide as im about a Norwood 3V and use topikk everyday to cover up my hairloss and main reason for getting this is to getaway from the topikk and my plan is to not go wet shave but more of a stubble effect with a .5 maybe try and getaway with a 1 depending on the look as i will need no sides just frontal and crown areas

You'll probably find that you have to explain your new look a lot less than you think you will. The harsh reality is that although your hair is a big deal to you, it is not such a big deal to everyone else. As soon as the initial "wow you shaved your hair" reaction has been and gone, people will move on and forget about it.

Damien nailed...nobody's going to care !
I plan on getting a T shirt printed up for my workouts...that says..Married Prisoner # 666 just for a couple of laughs..
I told my wife and she laughed her @ss off..(the first time)
Any body asked me? I'll probably tell them I wanted a nice clean crisp easy to care for look...and then if...I'm so inclined and I see they could benefit from HIS MHT Clinic in NY City...I'll fill them in on the information about what I did..
Posted 8 months ago # -
Totally agree with Damien. It means to world to us, and not so much at all to others!
Posted 8 months ago # -
I disagree that it does not matter....Different ppl have different social circles, different work environments and different families.
Both of my neighbours on each side are slap heads just like me, and its something we all tease and banter about with each other on occasion....So for me to suddenly appear with a hairline would be easily noticeable to them which would result in me coming clean about my treatment or inventing something less drastic than saying my head has been tattoo'd.Posted 8 months ago # -
Cakelover - I could see that being a problem for you if they live next to you & see you everyday. I would encourage you to go the vitamins route and not say you have some scalp disease in remission if you are challenged.
Honestly though, I would wait until you are challenged to say anything. They honestly may not even bring it up.Sometimes we make more out of these things in our minds before they ever actually happen. Good luck!I suffered from a form of scarring alopecia called Lichen Planopilaris. I had my first treatment with HIS on 11/28/2011 and it's changed my life for the better. I didnt say it doesnt matter, of course it does, I'm just saying that it matters less than what you may think. Even if you came clean, your mates would have a laugh at your expense no doubt, but they'd soon move onto something else. They may even express an interest in getting it done themselves. No-one likes to be the first, but this is a pattern we've seen a million times before.
If you have a slightly receding hairline and then have MHT, the only comments you're likely to receive are "wow yo shaved your head". And that will be all there is to it. If you have very little hair, and all of a sudden you appear with a full head of 'shaven' MHT hair, of course that will raise some questions.
So do you make something up, or come clean? Personally I would tell my mates what I'd had done, but only you can make that decision. If not, I'd be tempted to tell them I've been trying a miracle cream or lotion. We all know that Rogaine very rarely works, but your mates wont know that. As someone else said, tell them you tried that foam stuff off the telly......

This is something I've worried about.
I've learned (the hard way, of course) that telling the truth is really the best thing to do in almost every situation.
But I really can't imagine being honest in this case... like, how do you nonchalantly say, "Yeah, hair loss was buggin' me, man, so... yeah, I got a tattoo to replicate hair. It's pretty cool, dude."
I could never imagine being that casual about something that has negatively affected me for a long period of time.
Who knows... I'll just deal with it when I get to it, I guess. :-/
Live. Through. This.
I'm a broke 24 year old who can't afford to fly to NYC.
I'm getting MHT when the Chicago Clinic opens in Spring of 2012.

As to why your hair seems to have grown you could always say your taking colloidal minerals/vitamins as most folk in UK haven't heard of them.
You could always use religious reasons, say you are following Buddhism.Or if that doesn't seem viable you could always quote the bible Corinthians 11:14 - Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?If Gods opinion is that long hair on a man is a shame (not a sin, just a shame) then who am I to argue with him (especially as it is convenient for explaining MHT), this would be another reason for you shaving your head.Or you could tell the truth regarding your 'hair'. I personally wouldn't tell people I had the procedure done, unless they themselves were bald and it may help them to know about it.Damien is right, our hair, our clothes etc are way more important to us as individuals but anyone other than ourselves probably won't care/notice whatever we think is wrong/different about ourselves to the extent we do, so I don't see it being much of an issue except in our own minds. I can't wait to have my MHT treatment.Posted 8 months ago # -
Didnt think of the religious explanation, good idea

Again - like Damien that's not what I meant! I manage a soccer team - you can imagine the banter. I'm a teacher - you know how honest kids are.
What I meant is that they don't have the emotional attachment that we do to it!Posted 8 months ago # -
I posted this before in a different thread but this is my plan...I have been smoking for 20 years...my plan is to take some time off work, get the treatment done, start working out and quit smoking. I have been using couvre/toppik for years so it looks like a full head 9most of the time) My reason for shaving my head is I am starting a new phase of my life....I shaved my head, training military style and being disciplined and won't grow it back until my cravings stop...and since they never stop then I can never grow it back.....but really after the initial shock....friends/work will forget about it and they will just get used to it....my wife says the same things as others have stated...."no one cares about this as much as I do....she has to remind me that I am not the center of everyone's attention!! haha

Nice thread!
I have quite alot of thinning on top but probably enough hair at this point to pull off (no pun intended) what i am going to say which is something along the lines of"I just shaved my hair and it looks thinner when it grows long so now it looks more thicker and full"Obviously, i think there is only a certain point on the norward scale you could get away with saying this...maybe NW 4-5 topsPosted 8 months ago # -
I would just say that I have had a personal matter that made me very stressed out (at work or home) and that that has now passed and my hairloss must have been due to that... or I've started making fresh juices every morning and must have just been getting the correct vitamines now or something, i think no one will notice as much as we do and if you just go over it very lightly, it will be taken in and forgotten...

I'm going to say: I couldn't be arsed with my hair anymore so I've shaved it off. That's it..No other plan... and I'm going to stick with it and not give anymore info about it. Sod them! if people persist just tell them to -shut up big nose -LOL

Here is an option: do what I did.
I spread out the treatments over months.
Every treatment got progressively darker.
After the first two (five days apart) it looked as though I was thinning (not bald).
After the third treatment it looks as though I am receding (not thinning or bald)
The plan is after the forth, I will look as though I have a full head of hair that is shaved. My overall plan is to complete the treatment in six months. It took 6 years to lose it, and 6 months to gain it back.......not bad in my opinion.

You've be amazed how ignorant a lot of folk are to Male Pattern Baldness, especially woman ! I worked with a woman in her mid twenties ( a teacher) who thought that some guys lost all their hair and other just on top.. she didn't realise that the guys with no hair were actually shaving it!
I now work with woman who dont think that the guys in work who shave are balding at all, but are doing it for the look. These guys are all in the first stage of MPB but covering it well by shaving.I think If you have been sporting a shaved look for a while it will only be noticable to other guys who are balding as we tend to notice things like hairlines! To the civilians it is more likely to be the "youve grown your hair" response.
If like myself you currently have some hair on top that can sometimes pass for decent coverage I think it will be easier to get away with it. The shock will be how short my hair is not the fact that my hairline is reasonably well defined. I have thought of shaving my head to get used to the "look" but think it will make the post procedure difference too obvious.

I'm a lot less worried about this than I was. I've had mates comment on how far back the side profiles of my hairline are in the past, but now I shave the sides and use dermmatch to bring in the temple peaks to the edges of my eyes and nobody has noticed a difference, just that my hair looks a bit better.
People know that I don't have great hair, balding or not, so it'll be easy to explain why I decided to shave the lot off and refuse to grow it back. I imagine a few of my mates will be more analytical than others, so I plan to face them for the first time after MHT at a dimly lit club or something, so they can get the fact I've shaved my head out of their system and then when I see them again in quieter/ more brightly lit conditions, they won't be looking at my head so much.
Currently saving up for MHT, aim to get it done by May/ June
Using dermmatch on my frontal hairline and also to replicate shaved follicles on my side profiles.Posted 3 months ago # -
'I GOT MHT DONE'

You honestly DON'T need an excuse, no one notices, does anyone really give a flying ^### what our hairline looks like??? It's is only US!!! I have had it done and if ANYONE said anything I just said that I got a remington r91 for xmas and have started using that instead of razorblades... No one made any other remark. The ONLY people that would notice are your bald friends, cos we pay attention to that kind of thing. Whatever you do, don't go saying it is Rogaine, you'll have people going out to buy that bottle of shit thinking it will actually work!

I have just had my 3rd treatment. I am/was a Norwood 7, I now have a full head of buzz cut hair that looks fantastic. No one has mentioned it nor have I noticed anyone doing a second take.
I used to shave my hair against the grain every other day, I guess people assume I'm wearing my hair slightly longer than before....
Don't worry !Posted 2 months ago #
