Yes your crown area looks very patchy for sure. I suppose this shows the difference with certain skins. I was told mine was in very good condition so it has taken well, maybe yours needs those extra sessions just to get it spot on. Im sure they will sort your Basketballfan. All the best.BB

Basketballfan - I sincerely hope your story ends well, and it's great that you've posted all the details. Personally, I was very encouraged when I saw shots of you at the game. I thought "guy looks great, I'm in". You wrote about your caution concerning your look, and I thought "nah..he's fine." Now that I see this, I'm not so sure. I'm sure your anxious. Hell, I'm anxious. I've read this story and couple of others, and I want to see posts where there is positive resolution. I'm missing the ending of the movie where our hero rides off into the sunset. If someone can show those links, that would be great. I want to see "yeah, the ink didn't take, took more rounds than I thought, there were speed bumps, hiccups, and 'hairy moments' (rimshot) - but look at me now!" I have no doubt that HIS cares about customer satisfaction (which is a good thing, and something to be respected). But by the same token, we're not judged on intentions. Best of luck!

I know it is easy for me to say, but keep positive. From reading this forum for months now, the guys at HIS always seem to find the answer in the end.I know it must be frustrating for you, but you gotta believe. You looked great after the treatment, and still look good even after the fadeing.I'm sure it will come right for you in the end.Best of luck bud.Posted 3 months ago # -
my 4th treatment is next friday (feb 3).
it has been a rollercoaster ride - the whole thing looked great for about a week and i thought the pigments settled superbly. over the past few days things faded considerably as you all see, and even the crown needs more work.again, on the positive side, every treatment so far has left me looking better. its not a huge difference, but still quite visible. im just a bit worried about the ink, it if so faded after 2 weeks, how will it stick for years?I know Matt will do everything to make me satisfied, and i trust HIS to have the best intentions to leave the client happy - thats why im not worried about. Again, if it takes more than 4 treatments to make my head look mint, im cool with it. Im lucky enough to live in NYC so even going for post-op consultations is not a problem.LETS GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!

Bballfan - From the front the treatment looks like it's holding and you're close to being good there, but that recent crown shot really looks thin. The lighting is a little harsh. I can see some of the shadow of the treatment up there but you definitely need another session up there as I'm sure you know.
Just be patient with it. Your attitude is important to get you through this.I've had 4 sessions and I'm very happy with my result but I'm kind of resigned to the fact that if I keep needing more I'll get more to keep it looking as good as it can be.Don't understand why your skin absorbs the pigment but it could very well just be you needed more sessions to keep building this up. Like I said, from the front you look close to being good so hopefully whatever work remains is going to focus on the problem areas you have.I know with me I had a few patches/spots that just didn't take the pigment as well as the rest of my head did. The 4th session built those up and they look much better but I also know that could be temporary and it could just be the skin in those spots is going to be difficult.Hang in there. I'm pulling for you. I really think that pic from the front looks great so hopefully it's just another session or two to get the crown to hold steady for you.I suffered from a form of scarring alopecia called Lichen Planopilaris. I had my first treatment with HIS on 11/28/2011 and it's changed my life for the better. I just believe we should go MUCH darker next time with the ink color, given how much fading i observed after just 2 weeks.
I wish i could get some words of wisdom from other practitioners, if only they were reading the forum. Last time we used ink #26, and with my skin absorbing it so much, i would go much lower now.im just a little bummed out to see other guys' case studies and even threads on the forum with fantastic results even months after the procedure, while mine looks completely worn out after few weeks. And i really try to follow the post-op skin care treatment to the fullest.
anyways, forgive me if i'm being a drama queen, but i really just want to see comparable results to the others, if not the same or maybe even better. hopefully most of you guys agree that my concerns are somewhat valid.

Hey Basketballfan,
It's obviously a stressful time for you and I for one really appreciate you being on the forum and being upfront and honest with your experiences. HIS know that your MHT ship has sailed so to speak so they will do everything within their powers to ensure that you have a satisfactory outcome. I had treatment their a few weeks ago and I have no concerns about the level of customer service. I really do believe that your outcome will be a positive one, it's just going to take longer than other clients. I am sure HIS have come across this before and are experienced in how to handle situations such as yours. You are in my thoughts (and am sure many other peoples) ....Posted 3 months ago # -
Huh...call me crazy, but I think the shots from today look better. Needs work, but wasn't as bad as I thought.

i think its just the lights man. the other group of pics your head had less shine so it looked fuller. The last set of pics your head was under brighter lights and had more shine. I think u could go super dark and your hairline would still look like this under the lights. Maybe some more touch ups just to fully flesh out the look, but i think specifically what ur talking about here is just the affect of the light.

Did you have some kind of injury to your scalp skin in the crown area where the pigment isn't holding? That spot/area looks a little different than your other scalp skin texture wise in these pics especially in that 3rd pic/overhead shot. Could just be the shadow and angle of the shot though.
That top pic of the side of your head looks really good outside of the obvious spot in the crown that is lighter. Your hairline and profile look good. The 2nd pic looks really good too man. You have a very visible shadow going on there.Just to give you a frame of reference if it helps, I know color wise, they started me out on 22 for my first 2 sessions, then went to 16 for my 3rd and 14 for my 4th session which really was just a sprinkling of pigments around my head for better blending.Hang in there Bballfan.I suffered from a form of scarring alopecia called Lichen Planopilaris. LPP,
i never had any injury that i know of, but the crown was heavily covered with concealer over the past 5 years so some skin damage might have occurred.pigments-wise, i saw your final result and the color along with density look amazing. not sure why we started so high (#30), knowing that my natural hair is pitch black. my first three treatments were much higher numbers than your first one? That might be the answer why my pigments are so light.im hangin in here until i get what im looking for:)LETS GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!

This looks to me still AMAZING! and I notice that it needs alittle bit of filling in the back, but, overall its a really great look. I agree with the other user about the lighting affecting it. Also pictures look much different then actually in person. When I met with Zang, his head looked immaculate in person and then I took a picture of his head and in the pic the lighting in the room made it appear alittle more faded then it did in person. So I believe your results probably look SMASHING in person.
Anyway, you look great and I think after alittle fill in you should be more then content!!!
Having MHT in NYC between April 20th and April 27th 2012! Amped!Posted 3 months ago # -
i know that each skin is different but just like basketballfan and magic's case, when will the fading stop? up to how many treatments at maximum should one undergo to stop the fading?
i know we have different skins but what if im the unlucky one who does not take the pigments well and my skin keeps absorbing it. what if it keeps fading? this worries me a lot because there is no HIS in my counrty. I cant go back and forth touching up. it would cost alot of money and time...and yes, how is it gonna hold up for years if it keeps fading like this?is there a possibility that one might need monthly touch ups?when are you in the "safe zone" i mean the time when you know the pigments are locked in and will not fade anymore?Posted 3 months ago # -
I keep repeating that fading is the only thing which I'm concerned about.
I'm trying to figure out how the pigments react on the long run on average. I tend to think that after the initial major fading (due to settling), the color would stay at its place for a good deal of months, but who knows? That's why cases like this one are very interesting to me; and it would be very useful (and kind) of Bbfan to keep us updated also for the months to come. Whether to say "it faded" or "hey guys, I'm so happy, it's stille the same". For common use; because we need these kind of references.
I'm pretty positive that all HIS pratictioners are skilled and I know for sure that Bbfan will leave the clinic fully satisfied in a few weeks from now. Personally I need to know what happens next (hopefully nothing!)...the next following years.
By the way, I'm not very good a making stats, but is it my impression or these incidents are more common in the US than they are in the UK? (I'm asking everybody, especially those more into the forum). And, if my perception is confirmed, might it be due to some slight difference in the chemical composition of the ink?

Looking at your pictures Basketballfan, the fading on your crown is heavy for sure. However as LPP mentioned, the texture of your skin looks damaged in this area and this could be the main reason. I'd ask your practitioner as he should be the expert.

I would ask Matt et al if they think that years of using lots of concealer could have affected the ability of your crown to keep the micropigmentation from fading over and over. I frequent another hair loss forum on which there have been guys here and there who are of the opinion that using too much concealer over the years somehow partially damaged certain areas of their scalp. I, for one, have had 4 hair transplantations and I feel that I certainly had a substandard graft growth rate, especially in my crown area. This is where I used Dermmatch just after the 1st crown transplantation and also before and after the 2nd crown transplantation. Did too much use of Dermmatch hinder the growth of some or most of those grafts? Unfortunately, I don't think that anybody can truly answer that. Again, I would certainly bring that up to Matt et al.
Also, having MHT done doesn't affect any current hair that one has, does it? I simply ask this in case there are the few people out there who are dissatisfied with a treatment and would rather just grow whatver hair they have back out... or if the pigments have to be constantly and constantly re-applied as to where one would not be able to afford coming back for constant treatments. What does one do in that case? I don't wanna sound like a downer, because I'm sure that Ian and staff can certainly work any issue out, but I would just like to know, mainly, if this affects any current hair that one has at all.
Anyways, Basketballfan, I wish you all the best during your 4th treatment. I hope that you are able to enjoy watching your team in the Super Bowl, having a brew in your hand and having that honey that was at the basketball game with you watching the game with you, all the while rocking a great 0.5 Vin Diesel guard hair cut that can now last for a long, long time for you. All the best, bro!!

Sorry for a big delay in response guys, i was MIA from the forum for a few days.
Regarding the crown and heavy usage of concealer, i spoke about it with Matt not once and not twice. Actually after shaving me for the first time my skin looked somewhat OK and Matt admitted that it was taking pigments nicely. Redness-wise only the first treatment was a bit harsh, but after 2nd and 3rd i was pretty much able to leave my house without a hat after approx 48 hours. It appeared as my skin was less damaged as i thought it would be. Although i used Folica Fullmore (was never a Dermmatch fan), i used to wash it off quite often to let the scalp breathe for days i was sitting at home all alone.I will talk about this with Matt once again, bu i remember him saying that pigments settled nicely on the crown after the 2nd treatment. We obviously both agreed that the front needed much more work to look as defined and dense as i would want it to be.LETS GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!

Good luck Bballfan! That gym lighting is the worst out there. The gym I go to has similar harsh lighting but I can see still my treatment in it. It just washes out my skin tone and color though. Every time I see myself in their lighting it freaks me out a bit.
If it takes 5 treatments, so be it. I've had 4 so far and for all I know I may need another down the road. The good part is we can go out and live our lives without anyone knowing what we did.Hopefully, this next one takes care of some of the concerns. i wish it was just the case of the lighting, but its just clearly not dark and dense enough yet.
I will ask Matt to go much darker (maybe pigment 22 or 20) to finally solidify the hairline and make it look sharp and defined.LETS GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!

hey basketball fan, i haven't been on here for a few weeks and already i missed out on your progress. i must say the latest pics look really good. im amazed at how much its faded but if you feel the need to have it darker pigments then by all means go for it. you can see it in person, and i know it looks a lot different then the pics. keeps us update

johnnyboy,
trust me i cant believe it either. most of the pigments are fading to the point where they are starting not only to look way too light, but also don't reminisce me of hair follicles anymore :(check the high quality pics i just took after shaving with Remington TO THE SKIN 5min ago...anxiety is killing me ughhhLETS GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!

quick update....
just got home after my 4th treatment early in the morning today. Just like the previous ones, it lasted for about 1.5 hours. Matt agreed that it faded considerably, so we decided to go down to pigment #24 which apparently should seal the deal. I showed him photos from the NBA game i attended and admitted that was the ultimate color i want - so i was reassured we will finally get there. Fingers crossed, since i really want my hairline do be visible not only from 2-3 feet, but from 20 feet, nice, dark and fully defined (just like i had it at the game btw).I will not post any pics (might have been a bad omen ) until it settles. As always, looking good so far, the redness is barely visible. I am going to see Rise Against later tonight and God knows, maybe i will be able to attend the concert without a hat. Redness was never an issue, Matt said my skin is certainly responsible for absorbing the ink too much.He told me his pigment color was 28. My 3rd treatment was done with 26, but when we were standing in front of the mirror his ink seemed million colors darker. Super strange.Lets see how the story unfolds. I'm hopeful this was my last visit at the clinic, as much as I enjoyed talking about the Superbowl with Matt. Lets Go Giants!LETS GO NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS!

It looked really good immediately after that 3 treatment, at some point the fading is expected to stop, right?
